NEWBORN FAQ

When Should I Book My Session?

As soon as you decide you want to get your newborns pictures taken. Try and book your session at least three weeks before your baby is born. I only take a limited number of newborns every month so the sooner you can book, the better. This will also allow time for you and I to talk and discuss color options and themes for your shoot. We will set your session time for your due date and once the baby arrives you can contact me to schedule the actual session date and time.

How Old Should My Baby Be For A Newborn Session?

The ideal time to photograph a newborn is between 4-10 days old. We can do a newborn session all the way up to 12 days, however after that, they tend to not be quite as sleepy and they begin to loose their “curl” that they have which is what allows for such sweet poses. If your child is older then that I will still be happy to photograph them, however it will no longer be considered a newborn session. To ensure that we capture your baby during this magical newborn time, please schedule your session at least 3 weeks prior to baby’s birth.

What Is Included With My Session Fee?

The session fee covers the sitting and use of my props and accessories. You will also receive 20 fully edited images to do with as you please. It does not include any prints or products. These are purchased separately during your ordering session if you wish to have one.

Where Does The Newborn Session Take Place?

Sessions take place in my studio. This allows me to control the environment that your baby will be photographed in, including temperature and noise which will all aid in getting beautiful sleepy newborn portraits. You will also be able to utilize all of my backgrounds, outfits, props and accessories.

Do You Provide Props/Accessories?

YES! Most of the cute props, headbands, blanket, and hats you see in my portfolio are available at the studio for you to use during your session.

How Long Does A Session Last?

This depends on the baby. For newborn session plan for at least 2-3 hours. We really can only go as fast as the baby allows us, and there will be times that he/she will need to eat, be cuddled or lulled back to sleep. Baby/children sessions last anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour, depending on the needs of the child.

What Should I Bring For The Baby?

Diapers, wipes, warm blankets, swaddle blanket, paci, bottle, formula or breast milk, boppy if you would like one.

What Should I Bring For Me The Parent?

If you want to get pictures made with your newborn please bring a black, longs sleeve shirt or a white/cream shirt, cami or tank top. You might also want to bring a second outfit. I photograph most of your newborn session with them being naked, this means there will be many potty accidents and you could get pee’d or pooped on. (Believe me, this won’t be the first or last time this might happen to you…welcome to parenthood!) I also recommend you bring snacks and any beverages that you might want. This is especially important for breast feeding mothers that need to stay hydrated and well fed. Lastly, come with a calm and peaceful attitude. Remember, I do this all the time and there isn’t much that will throw me. If I get pee’d or pooped on, it is no big deal. Newborns can sense when you are stressed and react to that. We want to keep this a relaxed session for you and the baby. For the most part, you will be able to just relax for a couple of hours. Enjoy your quite “me” time!
